Carbon Coder software is a universal transcoding product that supports a wide variety of broadcast and Web formats. A partial list of supported formats includes: MPEG -1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.264, Windows Media, DV25, DV50, DVCPro, HDV, VC-1, DPS, DivX, Flash, Real Video, QuickTime, AVI, ASF, MXF, LXF, GXF, sQ, Omneon Spectrum, and 3GPP. In addition to converting between formats, Carbon Coder also supports processing functions including: video filtering, audio filtering, NTSC/PAL conversion, SD/HD conversion, cropping, frame rate conversion, color space conversion, time code burn-in, logo insertion, metadata conversion, etc. Carbon Coder can be run in stand-alone fashion via its user interface, or unattended in batch mode via watch folders. Carbon Coder can also be controlled via an XML-based SDK which is included with the product. Multiple Carbon Coder nodes may be used in a transcoding "farm" controlled either via the SDK or via Rhozet′s Carbon Server management software.

Carbon Coder licenses are offered on a per-machine (rather than a per-CPU) basis. Each copy of Carbon Coder can be run on one machine with any number of processors/cores. Carbon Coder may be used for direct ingest and transcode of analog or digital video with the purchase of the Capture Module. The Capture Module package includes a device control cable and jog/shuttle device. The Capture Module supports the ViewCast Osprey capture cards (model numbers 230, 240, 540,and 560).
